 Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation: [se' 16, 1971 - March 31, 1995) Also known as Selena is an American Tejano performer. Her name is"the "Queen of Tejano music" her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most popular Mexican-American entertainers from the latter half of the 20th century. Billboard magazine placed her at third in the year 2020, on their "Greatest Latino Artists List of All Time", which was inspired by Latin songs and Latin albums. Some media outlets described her as the "Tejano Madonna" because of her fashion choices. Her clothing choices have earned her the nickname "Tejano Madonna" by various media outlets. Quintanilla and Suzette Quintanilla. In the 1980s, she was often criticised and refused bookings at various venues in Texas for her performance of Tejano music--a male-dominated music genre. Her popularity grew when she was awarded the Tejano Music Award as Female Vocalist-of-the year in 1987. It was awarded nine times. In 1989 she signed with EMI Latin and released her debut album entitled Entre a Mi Mundo (1992). Her brother was her primary music producer and writer. Entre a Mi Mundo was a top-ranked album in the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums charts for eight consecutive months. Many music critics referred to it as"the "breakthrough record" of her career because of its commercial success. One of its songs, "Como la Flor" was one of her top song titles. Live! (1993) was nominated as the best Mexican/American album at the 1994 Grammy Awards. It was the first Tejano recording to win this prize. In 1994, she released Amor Prohibido, which became one of the most successful Latin albums in the United States. It was also credited with the initiation of Tejano music's very first commercial era. It was one of Latin music's most popular subgenres.
